The impulse of Guðbjörg Lind is always to deconstruct and simplify objective reality, until it finally yields what religious scholars call the „numinous“, an intimation of a spiritual essence, the chief foundation of our make-up as sentient beings. Her paintings of the restless ocean or running waters of all kind gradually turn into meditations on the transitoriness of things. Her paintings of interiors end up as visual essays on the inherent nobility of plain and artless things, the things that we usually overlook.
